Serrated Blades
I need some HELP, I'm a wicked edge owner & sharpen knives at farmers markets. I'm getting asked more and more about sharpening serrated knives. Finding good info on the net is a joke. Can anyone help which tools are best, the proper way to remove the burr. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Re: My first knife on the Wick ...
Hello all, I got my WE about 1 year ago and my first try at one of my kitchen knives was a disaster. So I went to the dollar store and bought a knife, hit the edge with a file and started to practice and when that was sharp (after a few tries) then I went to work on my knives. There is a learning curve, be patient......Bill

Hello Alva, I think I might be able to help. Try adding a piece of foam tape to the top of each clamp, this will help stabilize the blade. Also use less force (side to side) when using your stones. Let the stones do the work. Hope this helps...... Bill

Re: Strop Care & Maintenance
Clay, have you tried any other leather for the strops i.e. Elk, Deer, Buffalo, Pig, Shark, Stingray etc. What is the thickness of the hides that you use for the strops? Bill

Re: Case for Wicked Edge
I found this case at the container store ( $24.99). The foam insert is precut at 1/4 " intervals so its easy to cut out with a serrated knife. I work farmers markets in the summer and this set up works great for me. I also use a smaller version for my stropping paddles.

Re: Backlit Cube! At last!
Hello Leo, Herman here again, I have another backlit cube available and you might already have one in your pocket. If you own an IPhone, iHandy has a level app that works as well as the angle cube and is just as accurate. You can zero it to your WEPS sharpening base, then set the phone against the paddle, but don't forget to put the phone high enough so the volume buttons do not sit on the paddle.

Re: Neat accessories
If you all think the angle cube is a must have (and I do) but you are short on funds. If you have a smart phone, i.e. mine is an i Phone, there is an app for that and its free. Its called iHandy Level, you can zero it to your sharpening mount and then measure your paddle angles. I compared it to my angle cube and the difference was 0.1 degree

Re: In The Kitchen
Hi all, I'll add my 2 cents here since I do a lot of kitchen knives at farmers markets. I use 19 degrees on all knives including high end German. 15 degrees for Mac and Global. Japanese steel on the high end can take a sharper angle. Cleavers on the other hand I use Clays guide from the manual. I have found that If you are not sure, contact the knife maker or distributor and they will tell you the stock angle. ( Check my post for sharpening a K-Bar ) As for cleaning my gear I use a stick magnet that I picked up at an auto parts store, works great stores easy. Went to the show yesterday, met Clay, had a good time met some fellow WEPS, sharpened some knives. BTW my personal folder is a Spyderco Endura, final strop 1/10 micron diamond spray, scary sharp.

Sharpening a K-Bar
Hi all, at one of my farmers markets this past summer a customer asked if I could sharpen a WWII era K-Bar. I contacted the company in NY that still produces the knife. I was told by a Sr. Engineer that when the knives were first made all the sharpening was done by hand. Now all K-Bars are sharpened to 20 degrees per side. Hope this helps

Re: Me and my story! Let's get ...
Well here is my story, my name is Bill and I'm 64 years young, collecting SS and working part time (30 hrs) as an auto mechanic. Last year I was looking for something else to do besides fixing broken cars and came up with the idea of knife sharpening well after many hours on the net I decided the WEPS was the way to go. Ordered it in Feb, and got it in May, one week after it showed up at my door my thumb had an argument with a hammer at work and the hammer won. Fast forward 3 weeks later, OK lets get started first my kitchen knives, then knives of some of the staff at physical therapy. Now lets see about advertising and farmers markets. WAIT JUST ONE MINUTE Do you know that you need liability insurance to work farmers markets and have you ever tried to find that insurance for KNIFE SHARPENING, its like finding hens teeth. Lots more time on the net many trips to UPS to fax applications. Yahoo, found one company in AZ. Now can we get started! OK how much to charge, well I came up with $1.00 per sharpened inch of blade. Now a banner , awning, table, chair etc, Are you starting to get the picture. I worked 3 markets till the end of the season and still haven't broke even, But I love what I do and my customers are very happy, I work one winter market and am looking forward to next summer.....
