Nope. Aluminum will not attract a magnet.

Flat ground blade?
I know for a fact I read a thread with tips on sharpening flat ground blades but I cant remember where for the life of me. I searched but didnt find what I was looking for.
Can someone point me to the thread OR give feedback on how best to sharpen mount flat ground blades in the jaws?
I finally used about 7 layers of blue painters tape on the very upper edge of the jaws. But I wonder if there is a better way to do it. I ended up getting pretty good results on my Strider SMF tanto. But it was still a little off.

What grit/micron should I have ...
Here is my lineup of available paddles....
100/200, 400/600, 800/1000, 1200/1600 ceramics, 3.5/5 micron paste on leather strops, and 3.5/5 micron paste on balsa strops.
I also have 1 and .25 micron sprays but I need to get another leather strop set to use it on.
I have done a few knives since getting the WEPS. I have gotten some pretty good results edge wise. But I just can't get the perfect mirror. I always have some residual hazing no matter how long I stay at each step or how I vary the direction. If I had a better macro lense I would take a pic but I dont. Just suffice to say the mirror is impressive to most folks but I know I can do better.
So how low do I need to go to get a perfect mirror finish? Or do I need to maybe work longer at some of the later steps? I thought I did enough but maybe not.

Re: Which WEPS Base?
Just an opinion..... But I think the paperstone was a little light. I wished it was another pound or so heavier. Had a little more movement when I was using it than I would have liked. But maybe I am just a little heavy handed! I am 6'6" and about 250. So I end up gorilla gripping most stuff.

Makes sense. Did you use them on balsa or leather?
Any advantage either way ?

Anyone use the Diamond sprays
Do you let the spray dry at all before using the strops or just spray it on and go to work?
This is the kit I have so far and then what I am waiting on. The sharpener. 100,200,400,600 diamond stones. The leather strops with the 3.5 and 5 micron pastes. And the balsa strops with 1 and .25 micron diamond sprays.
Like everyone else, I am waiting on the 800 and 1000 diamond stones as well as the 1200/1600 ceramics.

That is awesome.
Spend all the time teaching you can. My father died when my son was under a year old. One of my biggest regrets is my son (and now daughter) will not be able to hang out with my Dad and learn.

Re: Backlog uodate
Thats good news. I think my order number is just slightly higher than yours. Also for a Pro Kit.
I was wondering if Clay was going to ship the kit and then ship the backordered stones. Which is how I was hoping he would do it.

Re: Fixing the Wiched edge too ...
If you purchased the basic kit, it does not come with the base (the stone plate you refer to).
If you purchased the Pro Kit, it does come with a base.
Either way, you can order a base from Wicked Edge directly. Or mount the sharpener to some other material that you want to use. The bases straight from Wicked Edge do come pre-drilled so you just bolt it on in that case.
I have a Pro Kit on the way (I hope I get my shipping email soon).
