Re: My two best blades and two ...
Yes I did them with "cactus juice" and black dye.
I have a large vacuum chamber I found on ebay years ago for mold making but
I never use it. It was to big and slow.
Seen a video on youtube for the cactus juice
for wood and tried it, very cool stuff.
the dye goes into the soft parts of the wood
and looks really neat.
Now I got to find some cool stock...

Just made a set of grips for my Sig P238
Vacuum Stabilized Birdseye Maple using Cactus Juice with some black dye added.
I think I might try making some blanks for knifes as well.
Just having some fun with the toys.

Re: Bad steel edges? Pics
I think I just needed more time to get past a corroded layer and hit better stuff.
I also had to tweak the resin piece I made the knife was not setting straight enough.
I need a Cube
soon....

Re: Bad steel edges? Pics
I ended up taking it down aways with 50 grit stones.
It came up ok for the kind of blade it was not bad.
I think I got by lots of the bad stuff.

I did have to sand the dome down.
I think Solarez might be better.

Re: Bad steel edges? Pics
I use Blue fine line tape.
www.amazon.com/3M-Scotch-Plastic-Stripin...tech-data/B002MOH96K
You can get different resins, you would probable use one that cures with a black light.
Some types like I used use an expensive high output light.
These guys have some different types.

Re: Bad steel edges? Pics
I got the blade back, here are a few pics. It is a cheap blade so
We did not expect much.
I made a little resin insert to help hold it in the vise.
UV cured doming resin works real fast over the super flexible tape.

Bad steel edges? Pics
I did a knife for a guy and it would not cut paper. After looking at it under the scope
it had lots of chips that seem to come from what looks like corrosion in the steel?
Anyway like a dummy I did not take a photo. It was a cheap Titan OTF knife.
Anyone have pics of bad blades/steel? If I can get the blade back I will and take some pics.
I thought it was me but after looking through the loop/pc magnifier I don't know ,,looked like the moon surface haha
It would shave the hair on my arm though..
Pics of bad steel would be great.
Thanks Jdee

Re: Video
I used 17 to start than a 20 degree angle , I use the knife for cardboard and Craft paper everyday.
Sharpen it up each weekend with just the 20 angle for touch up. so far so good.
Nothing fancy that's for sure
It sure is nice having such a sharp work knife that really works and knowing
a little time on the Vise and I'm back to a super edge.
And an inexpensive knife to boot.
I'm really glad I spent $$$ on the WEPS system
and not on a High End super steel knife I could never sharpen once it lost its edge
Not that I don't like great Knifes

Re: Knife cover
I had mine for just a few weeks and really like it!
Did an Old Buck knife for a buddy and Got two nice big packs of venison the next day
for the little bit of work. Gotta love it
I bought what I thought was a pair of Fillet Gloves but there was just one in a pack
now I gotta order another one haha. they are really for friends that want to try the system out,
or if I get something odd in that I keep having close calls with..

Re: Fixing uneven bevels
One thing I have found is go back and forth when trying to get the bur, side to side
If you just work one side you can take away way more metal than you need to..
