Looking at the micro adjust, mine has the standard sharpened point, that would dig directly into the threads of the ball joint. I'm not going to use them because I think it will cause problems down the road. I was looking around for some of my boys air-soft ammo to see if it would fit, but didn't find any.

What about these: 10-32 Thd., 1/2 Lg., Nylon Tipped Thumb Screws, Zinc Plated Steel? I'd love to find them with a knurled head instead of the spade head, but so far haven't found a source...

Looks like maybe I can get them as socket head cap screws and then press the thumb wheel onto them. Investigating...

Except in this setup, the locking element can be backed out to facilitate adjustment.

IMHO, the nylon TIPPED screws are nice, but the 100% nylon fastener might be a simpler solution.

The clamp idea was the best, but it must be too expensive.

Or someone already has 10,000 current "L" brackets.
