I was sharpening a kitchen knife today, and I noticed a variation in sound, and a catching feeling when I got to the 1200# ceramic stone. Upon closer inspection I noticed a hairline fracture in the stone. I pressed on it ever so slightly to see if it was a break or fracture, and sure enough it went all the way through. I have only used this particular stone about 5 times or less, and it's seen the inside of a plano plastic storage container when no in use.

Has anyone seen anything like this before?

Ya, you could fit odds and ends in the "too small..." slots. I'll probably have one full of stones and one full of strops before it's all over

Mark, I really like your station, very nice that you explained everything in your setup. I think I found your Plano tackle box, too.

If you're on a budget, check this out for stone storage. I got the idea from JDavis882's video, "Wicked Edge: Implement Organization". I just did some hunting for the exact one he had, and voila.

Jewelers polish and a drill. I think I may do it myself.

9m15s is where I tried to make the link start, but it's not cooperative. So, skip to 9m15s.

The microfines seem to be a little too smooth for my kitchen knives, I won't decide until I grab the 1200/1600.

I too sent an E-Mail enquiring about stuff that was left unanswered, but I got all the information that I needed from the forum. If there wasn't information readily available, I'd probably be weary. Inevitably some sales will require an E-Mail reply, so I'd be willing to bet that it's on the list. Some people won't be willing and/or able to dig through forums or make a phone call or two.

I fully intend on documenting my experience with WE on film and uploading it to Youtube. I don't have much experience editing video; audio is my gig. I can try though

I would imagine this is a "feel" type of skill. As in, one just "knows" how long to stay on a certain grit...

Are there "pre-burr" clues to prompt you to go ahead to the next stone? Can you tell by touch? Use magnification?

Or is it as simple as, try it out, and you may have to spend more time on a higher grit stone to raise that burr?

I too am curious, but I ain't botherin nobody. I ordered Pro Pack 2 about a week ago, and I was told they'd be shipping out in about a week.

edit: but also that I was #15 in line. Not sure if that's 15 Pro Pack 2's ahead of me; also not sure if there are 15 or more Pro Pack 2's ready to go, etc or if I'll be waiting on another batch of goodies.

That's the only dealer that has the Pro Pack II on their site, I think.

A goal of mine is to put a very uniform, beautiful edge on my knives as well as family and friends' knives as well. I have noticed some variance in the look of the edge from one Wicked Edge owner to another.

What is normally done ensure that a bevel appears uniform and even on both sides, from heel to tip?

I don't have any experience with the Wicked Edge, myself. But I do have a Pro Pack 2 on order.

I agree JDS; I have been following the forum for a few weeks and watching the Youtube channels like jdavis882, M0DiFiEDZ,and smokeeater908 eagerly waiting for the "right moment" to buy. I decided it was more important to get hands on with the WE rather than to keep waiting. The lurking is over, and the order is in. Less typing, more sharpening, know what I mean?

www.gearsolutions.com/article/detail/549...oices-diamond-or-cbn

Super interesting read. According to this article, it seems CBN is better for high speed grinding because of thermal energy dissipation by the crystals of CBN that get micro-chipped off, exposing "new" and cooler material. Diamond seems better as a slower speed abrasive not having to worry about temperatures.
