The 800-1000 grit stone worked great for a finishing touch.
Great tool! There is a learning curve, but it is quick, and I was making quick work of sharpening by the 4th kitchen knife. Wicked Edge Customer support is fantastic. Long story short, I bought a pre-owned kit from their Amazon store, and it came missing parts. WE made it more than right for me.
It works okay, not able to get a knife super sharp, though.
Hi Wayne, thanks for your feedback. If your knife is not getting sharp, it's most like due to one of two reasons:
1) The bevel angle is wider than 20 degrees
2) The edge is dull enough that the amount of sharpening you've done hasn't been enough to reach the edge
Either way, the remedy is the same: color in the bevels with a marker and perform 10 strokes per side. Use a magnifier to verify if there is any marker left at the edge. If there is, you haven't removed enough metal to restore the bevels all the way to the apex. If that's the case, you can do one of three things:
1) Keep at it until you reach the apex
2) Use the 25 degree knife guide
3) Use the 100/200 grit stone to reshape the bevels more quickly.
can not give a review ... it was a gift to my nephew ... he's a hunter and fishermah
