I dont own anything WE but I've heard about the brand and the consensus is you get for what you pay for with these guys. Only thing is the price you pay for the Venture is way cheaper than what you get. The portability is great, the design is great, the guide makes is so easy to get your knife super sharp or at a minimum can get it back to 20° very easily for a trip to some whetstones. Would recommend for sure and I regret not getting two!
So is this as good as my $900 WE. No. But it's so covient and does a great job for working knives. This little guy magnet mounts on the kitchen knife bar. Always handy for a quick touch up and so easy to use. I am a huge fan.
Great value, for hard use working knives this thing is the bomb, 80% for 5% of the cost.
See some reviews saying it's not as good as the system from WE that cost way more. That should be self explanatory. For it’s cost I think it punches above it’s weight class big time.
It took 25 minutes to get my technique down and to break in the stones. I am sailing now.
I liked it so so well a week later I ordered 4 more for Christmas gifts.
I expected a bit more from Wicked Edge, to be frank. I have other products from them that are quality and top-notch. The portable knife sharpener is not one of them, unfortunately. Essentially, it is a sharpening stone and strop connected to a piece of plastic. The guide is also plastic - the whole things feels flimsy and "cheap", unfortunately.
I still stand as a Wicked Edge fan, but the portable knife sharpener misses the mark for me.
