Having used the provided 20 degree guide to sharpen my hunting knives. I wanted a variable degree option to use on kitchen and utility knives. These are the ticket to making the Venture sharpener an all-in-one option for the household!
I I have the standard Venture, and I couldn't be more pleased. I have been hunting and trapping since I was a kid, and spent some years as a tool and die maker, so my free-hand sharpening was pretty good. However, the Venture takes it to a whole new level, by controlling the angle through the sharpening stroke.
It makes a huge difference, especially with difficult steels.
Additionally, it is compact and light weight, making it a no-brainer for the hunting pack. I generally hunt with small lumbar or suspension rigs (think military load bearing harnesses) with limited storage; the Venture is just right and has earned its place in my pack.
I cannot recommend the Venture enough, and I have been pleased with all of their products. They're not cheap... they're excellent.
I think the overall system is fantastic. I was not a fan of the plastic feel and using the allen wrench every time I wanted to switch knives. I am returning at sharpener and going to upgrade to the WE 64 cobalt.
