Wayyy nicer than the setup I had before. So stoked WE came out with a more affordable setup that’s got the same dna. Customer support was super helpful and responsive fixing my order when I had to make a change to it also.
Wicked edge has done great again with the Venture sharper. Quick, easy and convenient way to keep your blades razor sharp. It’s one of those “why didn’t I think of that “ design.
My husband loves this sharpener!
This is the kind of easy sharpener I've always wanted.
I've gotten pretty good at free-hand sharpening, but when I've wanted a really good edge at a specific angle, like with Japanese kitchen knives, I've had to resort to guided rod systems. As good as those can be, the actual sharpening angle varies depending upon how consistently you mount your knife in the clamp.
The Wicked Edge Venture solves that. It gives a consistent, well-controlled angle every time. I love it.
I recommend getting the extra-coarse (100 $ 200 grit) diamond stones as well. They really speed up the process.
My only complaint is the size. I would like a bench-top version of this that takes larger stones and works with bigger knives.
I mostly like this sharpener and will continue to use it, but there are caveats about which I wasn’t aware. 1) this will remove the finish from the blade of matte finish blade. the guide has material in it necessary to keep the blade at the proper angle. the material will remove the finish. see picture. 2) I note that it ships with 500/ceramic stone, but I don’t see the ability to order a replacement. if you want the same stone, currently you have to order a new sharpener. there are other stones (I got the 200/100 to reprofile my kitchen knives), but not that one. 3) as others have noted, the guide sticks. A little smidge of ballistol on the gooves solved that, thankfully. It really is a good sharpener, though. Great for beginners for sure.
Hi there! Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a review for the Wicked Edge Venture Portable Knife Sharpener. We greatly appreciate your feedback and are glad to hear that it is working well for you. We wanted to address some of the concerns you mentioned in your review. Firstly, we recommend placing painters' tape on blades with finishes that you want to protect while using the sharpener. Additionally, the issue with removing finishes should improve as the diamonds break in over time. We are also happy to let you know that we will be adding replacement 500#/Ceramic stones to our website for purchase. Thank you again for your review and for choosing Wicked Edge! Happy sharpening!
