How to Use the Wicked Edge Scissors Attachment
The Wicked Edge Scissors Attachment makes sharpening your scissors easy and precise. Follow this step-by-step guide to mount and sharpen your scissors using your Wicked Edge precision sharpener.
Step 1: Mount the Scissors Attachment
- Insert the Scissors Attachment into your Wicked Edge Vise.
- If you're right-handed, place the attachment with the logo facing right; if left-handed, face the logo left.
Step 2: Clamp the Scissors
- Center your scissors in the attachment as shown above.
- Tighten the shorter thumb screw first to hold the scissors in place.
- Then, secure the scissors by tightening the longer thumb screw.
Step 3: Set Your Sharpening Angle
- Use a Sharpie® to mark the entire bevel of the scissor blade.
- Keep the L-bracket slightly loose on the Degree Bar.
- Use a fine stone to lightly test your angle.
- Adjust based on marker removal:
- If only the top of the bevel is removed: angle is too wide.
- If only the bottom is removed: angle is too narrow.
- If the marker is removed evenly: you’ve found the correct angle.
- Once set, tighten the bottom screw on the L-bracket to lock the angle.
Step 4: Sharpen One Side
- Use an up-and-down sharpening motion with your stone.
- Start with:
- 400 grit diamond stone for dull or damaged scissors.
- 600 or 800 grit for scissors that are already somewhat sharp.
- Sharpen until the Sharpie is fully removed and a burr is present along the entire edge.
- Progress through your desired grit progression to refine the edge.
Step 5: Repeat on the Other Blade
- Remove the scissors, flip them over, and mount the other blade.
- Repeat the steps above for sharpening the second blade.
- After sharpening both blades, close the scissors to help knock off any burrs.
- Optionally, strop lightly on leather (pulling backward) to remove residual burrs.
