How to Install and Use the Wicked Edge Chisel Attachment
The Wicked Edge Chisel Attachment is designed to help you precisely sharpen chisel-style knives by securing the flat side of the blade at a consistent angle. Follow the steps below to set it up and use it correctly.
What You’ll Need
- Wicked Edge sharpener with standard Vise
- Chisel Attachment
- Depth Key
- Angle Cube (recommended)
Step-by-Step Installation Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Sharpener
Start with your sharpener fully assembled and your Vise in the upright, unlocked position. Remove any previously installed jaws or attachments from the Vise.
Step 2: Insert the Chisel Attachment
Slide the flat side of the Chisel Attachment into the Vise as you would a regular knife. Use the Depth Key to ensure proper vertical alignment.
Step 3: Lock the Vise
Once aligned, lock the Vise down using the Cam-Lock lever. The Chisel Attachment should be held firmly in place with no movement.
Step 4: Insert the Chisel Blade
Place the chisel blade onto the magnetic face of the Chisel Attachment. Make sure the flat side of the blade is fully flush against the face.
Step 5: Set the Sharpening Angle
Because chisel blades are typically ground only on one side, set your sharpening angle to match the factory bevel. You can use an angle cube for accuracy.
Step 6: Begin Sharpening
Use your normal grit progression and stroke method, keeping in mind that only one side of the chisel is being sharpened. Once complete, use a strop or fine grit stone to lightly deburr the flat side.
Tips for Best Results
- Always check alignment with the Depth Key before sharpening.
- Use light pressure during sharpening to avoid rounding the edge.
- Be sure to maintain the same angle throughout your passes.
