Pull-through sharpeners remove a lot of metal and use a fixed, often too-aggressive angle that's rarely matched to your blade. The Venture uses guided-angle rods — the same principle as Wicked Edge's professional bench systems — so you're sharpening at the precise angle your blade was designed for. You remove less metal, get a better edge, and preserve your knife longer.

The Venture ships with a 20° guide — the most common angle for Western kitchen knives and EDC blades. Optional angle guides are available in 15° (Japanese blades, thin slicers), 17° (all-purpose, many modern knives), and 25° (heavy-duty tools, outdoor blades). You can buy guides individually or as a set of three.

Yes — with the 15° angle guide, the Venture is well-suited to Japanese knives sharpened at that angle. Note that single-bevel (chisel grind) knives require a different approach. If you're unsure about your blade, our Product FAQ covers specific use cases in detail.

Under normal home use, Venture stones last for years. You'll know it's time to replace when the diamonds feel less aggressive and your edge isn't coming up as quickly as it used to. Replacement stones and upgrade grits — 100/200 for heavy chip repair, 800/1000 and 1500/2200 for fine finishing — are all available separately.

I actually bought three Wicked Edge Sharpeners

I actually bought three Wicked Edge Sharpeners. They are the Gen 4 Pro, this WE64 Cobalt Pro Pack I and another basic WE64 Cobalt. I wanted the professional Gen 4 model for home/shop/business use and not to tote around. The WE64 Cobalt Pro was to put together a large mobile kit to transport. I purchased the basic WE64 Cobalt for a small and compact bare essentials setup where compact in a smaller case is important. Something you would simply keep in your truck or take on hunting/fishing/camping trips just so you always have something to put an edge back on. This WE64 Cobalt Pro Pack I is used in the middle. It's extremely high quality and I've been into knives for nearly 50 years. I wish they had something like this back then, I would have bought it then as well. I always take care of my knives and use tools that remove the least amount of steel possible to get them shaving sharp. I don't want my geometry all messed up while doing it either. Previously this was done with simple crocksticks and Spyderco Sharpmakers. This is considerably better and faster because you can dial in your exact angle and have more options of diamond stone grits and leather strops. So far I am very pleased with them. I would highly recommend any of them going further to anyone tired of messing around or ruining your knives freehand sharpening. You don't go grinding on power equipment or freehand sharpening $150+ knives. Thank you Wicked Edge...your loyal customer.
