The 1500 grit takes your edge refinement to razor-sharp levels while still maintaining some toothiness. The Glass Platens are used with our Diamond Lapping Film and put a beautiful, super fast polish on your blade. We suggest using the 6 Micron Diamond Lapping Film after the 1500 grit. These Diamond Stones have a break-in period of about 20 sharpening sessions and an average lifespan of 700 sharpenings.

A very useful accessory.

I bought these along with some 6 micron lapping film. They are sequential steps in sharpening. It makes for a convenient combination.

Useful for chasing a polished edge

These stones are very nice when paired with the 6 micron diamond lapping film. You get the start of a mirror polished edge off the 6 micron. You can move to strops after that or follow up with more la[ping films. I prefer the latter if I'm going to be use a lapping film at all and follow up with 3 and then 1 micron films. I think the 6 to 3 to 1 micron progression offers the best bang for you buck.

Mirror polished my first blade

I am giving this product only 4 stars only because I was unsuccessful in removing all of the scratches from the edge. The 9,6 and 3 micron paper worked great though and the glass surface was great! I now have a mirrored blade edge! The only thing I do not like is the fact that when you look at my blade, you can see a lot of fine scratches still there. I just bought a wide variety of stone grits and worked my way up from 600 all the way to 1500 and then the lapping paper. Now this is my first attempt, and it took me approximately 45 minuets to 1 hour per edge, of a double edged blade. It took me 1 hour and 45 minutes to complete the process. I would say that I ran the abrasives across my blade about 50 times each, probably more. I went up in grit fineness each time. I have painted vehicles before so I used a similar process as to get a mirrored finish on a car without "orange peel." I was sharpening my blade about once a month with the 400/600 stones before I got my finer ones. Maybe I am using them wrong, but I don't THINK so. I am going to buy two more sets of these so I can have 3,6 and 9 micron paper all set on each one as to conserve lapping paper instead of just using a set and then peeling it off 3 times per knife. I feel that they will last for more than one knife. Overall I am happy with this product because my knife looks 10 times better mirrored and is 10 times sharper than it has ever been before!! Just have to figure out how to get rid of those pesky scratches.

Hi Mike,
Thanks for the review. The more you use the system, the more your diamond stones will break in and they won't make such deep scratches so polishing them out with the 1500/glass with lapping films will be much easier. A little technique you can use that will really help is to make some 'horizontal' passes with each stone before moving on to the next grit. What I mean is that you should use the standard stroke patter at each grit as usual, but before moving on to the next, just run the stone or film down the length of the blade a few times without sliding it up or down on the guide rod. I like to rest the bottom of the stone handle directly on the pivot for this, as long as the blade isn't so wide that the stone won't reach the edge this way. I hope that's helpful. Please reach out with questions any time.
