I’m a frugal person, and spent years looking at purchasing a knife sharpening system. I’ve been hesitant to purchase one because without spending over $500 on the system plus another couple hundred for stones, the quality just never seemed worth it. When I stumbled on the WE40 I couldn’t believe the value, and immediately purchased it. All that time waiting for the right product was worth it! I’m blown away by how simple, easy, and quick it is to get a blade wicked sharp!
The Gen 4 Pro is one of the best things that happened to me this year. It is an incredible piece of machinery! I got acquainted with Wicked Edge with a Gen 3, which I thought was wonderful. But the 4 has taken me to a level of comfort and effectiveness that I didn't really realize existed. I love the clamping mechanism. I love the smooth precision of angle selection. I love the "no-brainer" repeatability of the whole process. And, before I run out of superlatives, I wanted to give a shout out to Rowan Foxley, who was incredibly knowledgeable about the product and so helpful in getting this jewel on my workbench. The customer service helping me pick the perfect system is second to none. I window shopped for a long time and finally committed to a purchase and the only regret I have is not doing it sooner. Learning the process is a journey in itself and I have a new hobby I am already enjoying!
Bought this to maintain my knives and perhaps a few friends. Took about 25 minutes on each of kitchen knives and now they are consistantly sharp and will just take a few minutes every week to maintain the edge. I gave this 4 stars instead of 5 because the clamp does not hold my 12 inch chef knife as well as it could. I clamped the unit to a wooden table and sat as I went through the different grits. Unfortunately, the knife began to tilt and even though I retightened the clamp and used the included pads, the knife still moved slightly. I think I will try a thin rubber gasket between the clamp and blade next to see if that helps. I'm still satisfied with the edge and hope they will develop something to hold the blade even better. Perhaps 5 stars sometime later.......Bob
