Can the Wicked Edge Sharpen Serrated Blades?
Wicked Edge sharpeners are known for their precision and versatility, but what about serrated blades? The short answer is: kind of.
Sharpening Serrated Knives with Wicked Edge
While Wicked Edge systems aren’t designed specifically for serrated knives, you can still refresh and maintain a serrated edge using the Convex Edge Handles. These handles allow you to lightly recondition the scalloped side of the serrations, helping restore their bite without completely reshaping the edge.
How to Sharpen a Serrated Blade
Here’s a basic step-by-step guide to touching up a serrated blade:
- Use coarse grit lapping films (15–30 micron range) on the scalloped side of the edge.
- Set the lowest possible angle that still clears the vise.
- Make about 15–20 light-pressure passes with the lapping film to restore the cutting ability.
- Use a finer grit film on the opposite (flat) side to lightly remove the burr.
Important Tips
- Use very light pressure to avoid rounding the serrations.
- Do not oversharpen; serrated edges require minimal maintenance and stay sharp longer than straight edges.
- Only sharpen when performance noticeably drops.
