How to Use the Wicked Edge Low Angle Adapter

How to Use the Wicked Edge Low Angle Adapter

The Wicked Edge Low Angle Adapter allows you to sharpen knives at lower angles than your sharpener’s standard range. This is especially helpful for razors, fillet knives, and other blades that benefit from more acute bevels. However, using the adapter changes the sharpening geometry—so angle markings on your sharpener will no longer be accurate.

Important: When the Low Angle Adapter is installed, your actual sharpening angle will be lower than what your sharpener shows. For example, a setting of 20° will produce an angle closer to 16°. We strongly recommend using a Digital Angle Gauge to measure and record your angle settings precisely.

How to Install and Use the Low Angle Adapter

Step 1: Install the Adapter in Your Vise

  • Place the Low Angle Adapter into your sharpener’s Vise just like a knife blade.
  • Clamp it down securely so that it does not move during sharpening.

Step 2: Mount the Knife

  • Use a 1/8” Allen Wrench to loosen the screws on the adapter’s jaws.
  • Insert your knife into the adapter.
  • Tighten the top screw first, then the bottom screw—just enough to hold the knife securely. Do not overtighten.

Step 3: Set Your Angle

  • Use the marker method (coloring the bevel with a Sharpie and checking stone contact) or refer to the knife manufacturer's angle recommendation.
  • Use your Digital Angle Gauge to confirm the sharpening angle.
  • Record your settings for consistency in future touch-ups.

Step 4: Sharpen Your Knife

  • Follow all standard Wicked Edge sharpening practices.
  • Use light, controlled strokes and maintain even pressure.
  • Progress through your grit progression as usual.
