Worth Buy What You Can & Slowly Adding To It

I'm not a knife collector, knife enthusiasts, or an expert on sharpening an edge. I consider myself the average hard working (behind the scenes) person who enjoys working with a sharp edge on any tool I'm using. It doesn't matter if it's a filet knife, a boning knife, pruning scissors or shears, steak knife, an axe, chainsaw, etc... feeling the benefits of working with a sharp edge is definately worth saving-up for & paying extra upfront. A well tuned, sharp edge does make a job much easier, less frustrating, & less painful. (I know this system doesn't sharpen every type of edge, I was simply trying to make a point).
I was reading reviewslooking for advice regarding which sharpening system would fit my long term needs. I have small sharpeners I can easily carry in a back pack while in the field, if it's needed, however, I wanted something at home that allowed me the ability to really fine-tune the edge so the edge would last longer.
The review "THE ONE TO GET!" by "The Neighborhood Sharpening Guys" was very helpful, making up my mind by spending a little more upfront by purchasing the WE130, I can slowly add to it & I'll enjoy the benefits for years to come. The review "BUY IT NOW!" by Daniel was helpful in determining additional fine-tuning accessories. I'm VERY PLEASED with spending a little more on this quality & It'll be a wonderful kit to pass down to my son.

Buy it now!

My wife bought me this package for Christmas after I expressed interest in getting one. I've had the Spyderco Sharp maker system, a Lansky system and one of those handheld belt driven systems as well. They all were OK but are nowhere near as precise as the Wicked Edge. I've had it for not quite a year now and I've used it to sharpen approximately 10 blades including fixed and folders. It is a phenomenal system and being OCD like I am, LOL, you're guaranteed the precise razor sharp blade every time as long as you use it correctly. I recommend starting on your older blades for practice as it does take a little bit of learning. Watch all the videos provided by wicked edge, even more than once! And doing so you'll be sharpening razor or edge blades in no time. I bought the low angle kit as my wife has several high-end kitchen nice to sharpen. I highly recommend find the package with the longer sharpening rods and precision digital angle finder. I also recently bought the white ankle jars to sharpen my ESEE 5 explain as it was nearly a 1/4 inch thick. I've also upgraded to extra stones, the 800/1000 and 1500/2200. The latter is probably overkill but I'm telling you you could probably split atoms after using it on your blade! Yes it is quite investment and you could probably do just fine with buying the basic system. I like the fact you can easily change out the jars and adjust the jars with this particular model. If you can afford it get it!!!

The one to get!

I have used the following systems over the last 23 years, Wicked edge (WE100, Gen 3 Pro, WE130), Edge Pro, Work Sharp, Hapstone R1, Tormek, Lansky, DMT, Spyderco, Chef’s Choice, and even Shapton Glass Stones. That was a long and expensive learning curve to discover that the Wicked Edge system with the Gen 3 vise is a superior system. The WE Gen 3 vise can clamp tapered blades in just a quick second, making the system “the most convenient to use”. The diamond stones give repeatable consistent quick cutting performance. I like my knife edges razor sharp, so after a days worth of cutting the WE allows me to quickly and repeatedly mount and touch up my edge. To top it off the WE diamond lapping film is a luxury in sharpening. The 6 micron diamond tape will remove any burr and polish the edge. Despite the initial cost these diamond tapes seem to last a long time, 20+ sharpenings each. Save yourself the the expensive learning curve that I traveled down and just get any WE Gen 3 sharpener, your pocket knives will love you for it. Recommend system: Any WE Gen 3 system (with the WE 130 add a base) plus the 1500/Glass platen accessory stone and some 6 micron diamond lapping tapes. Good luck!

Your ticket to sharpening elitism

I have used several leading sharpening systems over the last 20+ years. Tormek, Edge Pro, Lansky, Spyderco Sharpsmaker even the WE100 and WE Pro just to name a few. The Gen.3 clamp is amazing and the Flexability of adjustment on the 130 is great. So, my favorite of all the systems is the WE 130 with diamond lapping film. It is the most convenient and produces the best edge in just a few minutes (once you learn how it works). My usual routine is to fix the factory edge on new knives. Once you own a WE you will never be impressed with the sharpness or evenness of a factory edge. After the factory edge has been corrected, re-sharpening is fast. Again on corrected knives I’ll start with the 800/1000 then move to the 1500/6mc Diamond and done. This will give me a near mirror polished edge that will shave and cleanly slice. The lapping film is so enjoyable to use I find myself continuing to .1mc for a full mirrored edge. I’ll never go back to leather and paste the lapping film is vastly superior. A note on cost. Try the aluminum lapping film to see if you like the results. Then once you know you found sharpening nirvana go with the diamond film it lasts much longer and cuts much faster.
