Ive had this for about two years now and if I had to do it over again I would buy this same tool. Seriously, the quality and attention to detail is astounding. Ive waited to write a review for good reason but after running a few hundred knives through mine I think I can give an honest opinion.
The stones are awesome. Ive used a lot of diamond stones in the past but you can just feel that these cut even on some of the tougher alloys.
This system isn't messy and the case is great. I used whetstones for a long time and am very comfortable with them but they're messy. Therefore they stay in the shop that is cold and dusty. I set this system up on my desk in the house. When I am done it goes back into its very well made pelican type case and tucks away into the corner. It's really neat.
These are some things I would change on the next model. First, give the third shelf with the purchase and give enough tolerance to fit three stones on their sides. With something so precisely machined it saddens me that this was looked past... Ive seen other people do it but I need to throw it on the mill and take off a hair or two to make the stones fit. Second, Take out the play in the stones. It might just be my stones but it makes a well designed tool feel cheep when they wobble. Third, throw in a pair of cut resistant gloves. Trust me...
Lastly, it comes with a learning curve and it isn't a "quick" sharpen. I have lots more to say but ran out of room. Contact me wicked edge :)
