This is my first WE system after pining for one over the years. I haven't gotten around to breaking in the stones, but I can already tell it will be quicker to sharpen with than some other systems. I will say that I think the base that came with mine might be slightly bowed, but after securing it to a table it doesn't seem to affect anything

Thank you for your feedback. We have a tolerance of 0.06' across the length of your sharpener base. Do me a favor and hold down one corner of the base and measure the distance from the table top to the sharpener base on the side that's bowed up. If that measurement is over 0.06', we'll get you a replacement under warranty. Just send us an email to support@wickededgeusa.com and we'll get you all taken care of.

I am used to Gen 4 sharpeners. It will take some getting used to with the lower cost products.

However, we're confident that when you're done sharpening your knife, you won't be able to tell if it was done on the Carbon or the Gen 4! This is my first wicked edge sharpener. I have been wanting one for a couple of years but couldn’t justify the cost to myself. With the new WE40, it was a little easier. Still learning to use it, heck of a learning curve, but the videos make it easier. The o my complaint I have so far is I am missing two of the little o-rings to keep the guide rod shields in place.

The carbon 40 is an amazing sharpening system that is very user friendly straight out of the box. The sharpening motion takes a little practice to get used to, but once you have it down, turning a dull knife into an absolute straight razor is a breeze.
